Teaching Responsibilities 

Faculty Lecturer, Rhetoric Department, University of Iowa (Fall 2019 – present)

I have served as sole instructor responsible for course design and the implementation of each of the following courses offered by the University of Iowa’s Rhetoric Department.

  • Rhetoric for Business Majors (4 credit hours)

    • 18-20 students; a general education rhetoric course for direct-admit business students

  • Speaking and Reading (3 credit hours)

    • 18-20 students; often taken by transfer students and those who have already fulfilled the writing component of Rhetoric

  • First-Year Seminar: Food, Community, Identity (1 credit hour)

    • 18 students; instructors propose first-year seminars for first-semester freshman on topics of their choosing. Selected proposals are run in the fall semester. 

  • Big Ideas: Creativity for a Lifetime (3 credit hours) – co-instructor

    • 80 students, taught in a TILE classroom

    • Housed in the department of Aging and Longevity Studies

Visiting Assistant Professor of English, University of Iowa (Fall 2018 – Spring 2019) - 1 year
 

I served as sole instructor responsible for course design and the implementation of each of the following courses offered by the University of Iowa’s English Department. I primarily taught courses offered to English majors. 

  • Topics in Culture and Identity: Hungering for the Self

  • African American Literature Post 1900

  • The Interpretation of Literature (General Education Literature)

Visiting Assistant Professor of English, Coe College (Fall 2018 – Spring 2019) - 1 year 
 

I have served as sole instructor responsible for course design and the implementation of each of the following courses offered by Coe College’s English Department. I primarily taught courses offered to English majors.

  • Exploring Literature: Food and Identity in the U.S.

Peer Mentorship and Instruction - Program Associate, English Department (Fall 2018)

Worked with a group of five other PAs under the direction of program head Dr. Barbara Eckstein to plan a several-day orientation session for instructors new to the General Education Literature program. I also led a 10-week colloquium where I will met weekly with a small group of graduate students to help orient them through the challenges of course design, general instruction, grading, and other concerns. I also conducted class visitations and evaluations of my graduate student mentees. 

Peer Mentorship and Instruction - Professional Development Practicum Co-Leader, Rhetoric Department (Fall 2014)

Helped new rhetoric instructors at the University of Iowa acclimate to the course requirements and teaching environment of the university. Assisted new instructors in building assignments for their courses via weekly meetings. Guided individuals new to teaching to form pedagogical practices, discussed classroom issues on a weekly basis, and provided samples and suggestions for in-class activities.

Writing Center Experience

Writing Consultant, Master's of Accountancy Program (Fall 2019 - present)
Tippie College of Business

 

Serve as a consultant and grader for accounting courses in the Master’s program. Meet with students one-on-one to provide tutoring support on assignments.


Interim Part-Time Assistant Director, Hansen Center for Technical Communication (January 2017 - March 2017)
College of Engineering


I worked 10 hours per week as Assistant Director of the Hanson Center, oversaw undergraduate tutors, set up the Spring 2017 schedule via the commonly used online writing center sign-up system WCONLINE, and dealt with issues with the system that arose. I helped improve the efficiency of the center by implementing new features using the online system, such as introducing survey data. I also tutored engineering students on a variety of projects (cover letters, resumes, rhetoric and literature papers, lab reports, statics essays, response papers) for appointments ranging from 30 minutes to one hour.


Graduate Writing Fellow, Judith R. Frank Business Communication Center (Fall 2013 - Spring 2018) - 5 years
Tippie College of Business


As a graduate writing fellow, I worked with business students on a variety of assignments in introductory classes in Management, Marketing, Business Communication, Accounting, as well as advanced students in business courses. Appointment times varied from 20 – 40 minutes in length, and I worked with individual students and small groups. The student body of the business school is very diverse; I worked extensively with both domestic and international students. 


Graduate Writing Tutor, EPB Writing Center (Fall 2014; Fall 2015; Summer 2015 & 2016) 
College of Liberal Arts and Sciences

 

In this role, I tutored graduate students and undergraduate students in a variety of subjects ranging from English to pharmaceutical socioeconomics. I worked with students on a weekly basis over the course of the entire semester. I worked with students writing for academic success, which is a program that helps students improve their writing. I also used the online tutoring system to provide feedback to student work.
